After The Tomorrow War , it looks like Chris McKay will soon turn his attention to his next project with Universal Pictures. McKay is reportedly in the process of negotiating with the studio to direct their one monster film, Renfield . The film will center around the figure who is Dracula’s assistant or “assistant”. FYI, previously the director of Bohemian Rhapsody , Dexter Fletcher, was once associated with directing the project that has been developed by Universal for a long time.
Plot details and details for Renfield are still being kept secret by Universal, but it can be said that this project will take place in a modern era.
In the story of the original Dracula novel , published in 1897, RM Renfield is an inmate in a psychiatric hospital who is thought to be suffering from delusions but is actually Dracula’s servant. This character first appeared in the 1931 film and was played by Dwight Frye, then played by Tom Waits in the 1992 film Bram Stoker directed by Francis Ford Coppola, then by Peter MacNicol in the parody Dracula: Dead and Loving It , and then played by Samuel Barnett in the TV series Penny Dreadful .
Renfield was part of the Universal Monster film project which also included Ryan Gosling’s Invisible Woman, Monster Mash, Dracula, Wolfman, The Bride of Frankenstein reboot, Little Monsters, The Thing, and Van Helsing produced by James Wan.
